Who Is My Neighbor?

It’s a question first asked of Jesus by a religious leader in Luke 10—and one we’re asking at Westlake this year with the best of intentions: the intention of loving others as we love ourselves.

2025–26 Chapels

This year, we are using our chapel time to explore the question, “Who is my neighbor?".  Our goal is that students would proactively learn about our community so that we can more authentically and meaningfully connect with our neighbors.

Deep Hope

Mr. Andrew Metzger is overseeing secondary chapel this year, and his deep hope for chapel time is that we would be community builders who take seriously Jesus' call to love our neighbors as ourselves.

A “deep hope” guides educators as they design learning experiences that align with our school's mission and points students toward their place in God's story.

Retreats

At the beginning of the school year, junior and senior high students participated in retreats. They took time to hear what God's word has to say about our neighbors, and what it means to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Listening During Chapel

Speakers from various community organizations have attended chapel, and we have learned about their work through interview-style Q&A sessions. Students have expressed that their awareness has grown, they can see themselves as part of a larger conversation.

Student Council Chaplains

Our student council chaplains this year are high school students Soffia and Lucas. They work with Mr. Metzger to develop and implement the spiritual life theme for the year.

Over the summer, Soffia and Lucas met with the Lake County Coalition for the Homeless. After the meeting, Soffia shared that she shifted from feeling anger and frustration that homelessness wasn't being addressed, to feeling encouraged by all the work that is being done by community organizations.
